Fa La La La Felt

after months of wanting to burst with the mostly-secret excitement that some of my designs would actually be in print...now they are!

the book, fa la la la felt: 45 handmade holiday decorations, was released as an e-book (lark's very first e-book) the day before thanksgiving.

add that to my list of what i had to be thankful for!

an e-book...how cool is that? you don't have to brave yucky weather, mobs in malls, and terrible traffic in order to get it! you just click on over, here, and for $14.95, 132 pages of loveliness is all yours. of course, you can wait to get the actual, hold-in-your-hands book, but can you really wait until august 2010? hmmm, today is december 1st, and i hear my little clock tick-tick-ticking.

there are so many wonderful projects in this book...i know because i have been grabbing every little bit of computer time i have to look through it! i feel so incredibly fortunate to have had 6 of my projects picked to be included in fa la la la felt...i am in some amazing company, surely. (i promise to come back later on and link to some of the other contributors after i find their links in the book!)

perhaps the most triple-awesome (i *love* eme's word!) of them all, amanda carestio, is also the author of fa la la la felt, and an editorial assistant at lark. amanda was ever so lovely throughout this whole amazing process, and i am forever grateful to her for her encouragement and rapid-response whenever i needed her! three cheers for amanda!!!

so, if you would like a sample of what is inside of the book, lark books has a free pdf download for you! it is an ornament version of my little redcaps, the holiday toadstools. i hope that you enjoy making one (or seven!). if you sit in the carpool line to pick up the kiddos, it's the perfect thing to keep you happily waiting.

here are a few photos from back in june when i sent all of my goodies off to amanda. cate was so little then!

fa la la la felt :: white paper packages tied up with string

fa la la la felt :: packages and my little helper

fa la la la felt :: packages ready to go

fa la la la felt :: sweets trio

fa la la la felt :: portraits

fa la la la felt :: stocking detail

fa la la la felt :: gingerman + sugar cookie friend

and these were the trees that inspired it all! i sent these off to amy for her annual ornament swap (i think that was the 1st year, and now this is the 4th). on flickr, this is one of my photos with the most views...7459 times, and 329 people have it marked as a favorite! amazing. i have been giddy since i first got the email last week and learned that my trees were on the cover. hmmm, i wonder whoever got my little trees and where they are now?

Your little works of felt art make me smile and I could really use a few smiles right now. I am soooo very happy for you. i can't wait to slowly work my way through the ebook. How cool is that to be able to download the book months before the publishing date.

You truly are so deserving to be featured in this beautiful book. All your creations have such a sense of wonder about them but it is their character that I love the most. Just look at the faces of those gingerbread people...........they are definatley upto something!!!!!

  23. Hi Cathy!

I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I bought this e-book without knowing you had submitted anything - it was the trees on the front that drew me to it! Then once I had it in my hot little e-hands, I realised every project I wanted to make was designed by you!

Thanks for some wonderful christmas inspiration!
